10-part Podcast - Trey Gunn & Markus Reuter

Markus Reuter and I have done the most complete interview/discussion I have ever participated in.

It started out as one segment of his ongoing Podcast, but we quickly became so engaged that it blossomed out to 10 full episodes!
The spine of the discussion was a thorough look through all of my work -- through all the different time periods, instruments and approaches. Because Markus is so deeply informed about all the music he was full of deep and interesting questions. Sometimes extremely detailed questions about a specific piece or a story he had heard. We covered all of it!
(Keep in mind, all of these stories are entirely my own perspective.)
However, the fascinating thing that happened over the course of these discussions is that they really were discussions and dialogue -- not an interview. So, we ended up veering off into some strange and interesting topics including movement, psychology, martial arts, card magic, practice, trance states, leaving things incomplete, aging, innocence and so many other unexpected things that always ended up tying themselves back to music.
We did one whole episode just on exploring our compositional process. And we even did another where I interviewed Markus about his earliest musical experience.
This was an amazing process.
Topics touched on in Part Two

The making of Crimson's "VROOOM" ep + "THRAK", "TCOL", hard panning, The Third Star, Toni Childs, Shrinivas, David Bottrill, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Michael Brook, Real World Studios, The ProjeKcts(1, 2, 3 & 4), Quodia, Eno, Deception Of The Thrush, Oyster Soup, UKZ, TOOL, playing without hearing yourself the end of KC for me and more.

Baking Cassette Tapes

I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and the only way out is through.

About 8 weeks ago I started going through old boxes of tapes and digitizing them. The first batch was from the Sylvian/Fripp writing sessions at David’s apartment in London. Then it was Sunday All Over The World writing and rehearsals. Then Robert Fripp String Quintet shows. Most were cassettes with a few DATs mixed in.

Punkt & Firma - new solo guitar releases

Solo guitar recorded live on the evenings of March 16 & 17, 2020.

These pieces will reward detailed and repeated listening.
Likewise, they will punish casual listening.

- - -

I went out into the side yard, next to the open window of my studio.
I asked the crows how they found listening to this.
Their response was:

Put in 91%, get back 137%.
Put in 31% get back 13%. Or more likely -17%.

Trey Gunn - 10-string Warr Guitar + the occasional EBow and clips

Punkt recorded live on March 16, 2020
Firma recorded live on March 17, 2020

Norway Performances

I've just returned from Norway with performances at the Fausko Festival in Hemsedal.

This festival has been running for 10 years and I was very happy to have been invited.

The first night's performance was with Norwegian guitarist Erik Wollo, Jerry Marotta and Kuoame Sereba. We rehearsed for about two days and then hit the stage on the Friday night. Bjorn Holte ran a superb laser show on the trees behind, and around, the stage.

King Crimson "THRAK: The Complete Scores" book

7d Media announces the publication of full-band transcriptions of the entire King Crimson "THRAK" recordings. Transcriptions by Gabriel Riccio with editing and tabs by myself.

I'm very excited as these are the first true transcriptions of King Crimson material ever undertaken -- including the double-drumming and most all of the guitar parts tabbed. The book is on high-quality paper and spiral-bound for easy reading/study. The final result is absolutely stunning. -- Trey

CONTACT - new Security Project release & tour

The Security Project has once again reinvented itself, this time with vocalist Happy Rhodes. Together with Jerry Marotta (drummer from Peter Gabriel’s first five records), Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Michael Cozzi (Shriekback) and NY keyboardist David Jameson, the group continues reimagining the early work of Peter Gabriel (and also, on this disc, Kate Bush), but with Happy’s impressive four-octave vocals adding an entirely new dimension. This live release comes from shows in the US and their recent Japanese tour.

New Year - New World

As of a few weeks ago, something has begun moving for me that I intend to build on.

I am, obviously, not alone in having had a very strange, and even stressful, 2016. It has also been quite a ‘dry’ year in terms of the deep creative work that I strive for. And while I tend to trust the bigger processes, I can’t help but feel like my own self may have gone off course a bit this year. In the same way I feel like the world has — at least from some perspectives. Judging the world is hard for me to feel any objective sense of. So I’ll just stick with myself...

Security Project CD / Live 2 for pre-sale now

We are very happy to announce the release of the follow up to the acclaimed Live 1 cd.

"The Security Project Live is a beautifully reverential and creative reinterpretation of these Peter Gabriel classics!"  – Kevin Killen, engineer of Gabriel’s “So” record

from reviews of Live 1:

“The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel’s groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.”  – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

"What Security Project does is accomplish what's been too long in coming: positioning Peter Gabriel's music as repertoire. It's clear that while the band treats Gabriel's music with no shortage of reverence, it's also about a more open-ended approach to the music." – John Kelman, All About Jazz

"Strong marks go to this unique project that will appeal to Peter Gabriel fans and progressive rock aficionados. This is a live album, but the level of musicianship among the band members makes that easy to forget until hearing the audience applause following the tracks. Writing as a Gabriel fan myself, the telling fact is that I’ll probably play Live 1 more often than I play Gabriel’s own recent reinventions."  – Jeff Elbel, IE Magazine

Security Project CD - Live 1

I'm extremely excited to present these recordings. We have worked our asses off over the last few years learning, arranging and performing this material. While on our European tour last spring, we recorded many of the shows and now have the audio 'proof of concept' to present this group. I half expected our recordings to have the effect of making you run to the originals. But it just isn't so. The performances hold up as works unto themselves.

Purchase a pre-sale version now and get an immediate download of "Lay Your Hands On Me" and "No Self Control."

The Waters, They Are Rising - available now

The official release date is not until next week. But....I have unleashed the new release today – “The Waters, They Are Rising”. Available for direct digital download and hard copy CD via mail order. (Most all of the 7d Media catalog is also shipping as hard copies now -- with t-shirts coming in a few weeks.)

I'm quite excited about this new recording. Namely for the general direction it is sending me. It is part one of a four CD group well in process – each of a quite different flavor. The second is gurgling up at present and seems to be pointing in the opposite direction of this one.

The next exciting thing is the beautiful opening track. A Bob Dylan cover(what?!!?) rearranged by yours truly, hauntingly sung by Dylan Nichole Bandy and recorded/mixed by Michael Cozzi. This was originally recorded as part of my score for Sonya Lea's short film “Every Beautiful Thing”. With the CD version we have fleshed out the arrangement and made some alternative choices.
